MOROCCANOIL at the Met Gala: Get the Looks

Moroccanoil has sponsored the looks for the 2023 MET Gala for Celebrity stylist Naeemah LaFond x Whitney Peak and Celebrity stylist Cervando Maldonado x Camila Morrone.

This year's theme was "in honour of Karl," which paid tribute to the legendary Karl Lagerfeld, creative director of Chanel. Whitney Peak is a Ugandan-Canadian actress that has recently starred in HBO Max’s revival of Gossip Girl, Disney+ Hocus Pocus 2, and the Apple TV+ series Home Before Dark, attending the event as a guest of Chanel. Camila Morrone is an American model and actress, most recently a star of hit Amazon TV mini-series Daisy Jones and The Six, adapted from the best-selling novel of the same name.

A range of Moroccanoil styling products and styling tools were used to create these looks, with a real focus on Moroccanoil’s Perfect Defense, highlighting the importance of heat protection with the use of any heat tools. Find out how you can achieve Moroccanoil’s MET Gala looks below.

Camila Morrone: Jane Birkin x Karl Lagerfeld Inspired Half Up Do

Model and actress, Camila Morrone, wowed on the red carpet at the 2023 Met Gala in Rodarte with a hair look created by Celebrity Hairstylist, Cervando Maldonado.

“The inspiration for me was a take on a 1960s Jane Birkin style. Her look was very Karl Lagerfeld-esque with her hair fresh, young, clean and really beautiful,” said Cervando Maldonado. “When styling, I started on damp hair using the Moroccanoil Perfect Defense to protect from all heat tools while also creating texture and beautiful shine.”

Get The Look

  1. Prep hair by applying a dime size amount of Moroccanoil Original Treatment or Moroccanoil Light Treatment for finer hair and lighter tones to create the perfect foundation for styling.
  2. Start on damp hair applying Moroccanoil Limited Edition Perfect Defense from root to tip combing through with the Moroccanoil Smoothing Brush to distribute evenly and protect the hair before blow drying also creating great texture and shine.Perfect Defense 580x385.jpg
  3. Apply the Moroccanoil Root Boost to the crown area and lightly through the bangs to create life and volume.
  4. After, use the Moroccanoil Infrared Hair Dryer for a rough blow dry. Starting in front of the face blow the fringe smoothly and pin with flat clips close to the ends to hold in place.
  5. Blow dry the rest of the hair starting from the bottom going toward the top with a medium sized boar bristle brush. After each section, roll and pin lightly.
  6. At crown, blow hair up and roll into a medium sized velcro roller for added volume at the top.
  7. Next, let the hair sit for 10 min pull it out and lightly glide the Moroccanoil Perfectly Polished Titanium Flat Iron through the end on a low setting of heat to take out any bend and create a nice shine.
  8. Use a drop of the Moroccanoil Blow Dry Concentrate, rub in hands and distribute evenly lightly raking through the ends for added shine and hold; combing through with the Moroccanoil Smoothing Brush once more.
  9. Once done, brush the front of hair into place to match with the back to make sure all is in place. Lightly take hair in the back and pull down toward the nape of the crown.
  10. To complete the look add in a few bobby pins and a velvet bow. Finish with a light Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray to make sure hair stays effortlessly beautiful throughout the night .

Whitney Peak: Sleek Hollywood Finger Waves

Actress, Whitney Peak, turned heads on the red carpet at the 2023 Met Gala in Chanel with Hollywood Glam hair created by Celebrity Hairstylist, Naeemah LaFond.

“We wanted to do some old Hollywood vibes so we decided on these sleek but textured finger waves,” said Celebrity Hairstylist, Naeemah LaFond. “The Moroccanoil Hair Gel left her hair mailable enough to mold and show her natural wave pattern in between the sculpted wave while the Moroccanoil Perfect Defense helped protect her hair before blow drying to set the final look. These hero products really helped pull this look together.”

Get The Look

  1. Prior to styling, prep hair by wetting it down fully and apply a dime size amount of Moroccanoil Original Treatment or Moroccanoil Light Treatment for finer hair and lighter tones to create the perfect foundation for styling.
  2. Next, create a deep side part with a fine tooth comb using a styling gel to create a clean part.Curl Control Mousse 580x385.jpg
  3. Separate front of hair from back of hair starting behind the ear and apply a few pumps of Moroccanoil Curl Control Mousse and a styling gel to back of the hair; sleek with smoothing brush and secure back section with a hair bungee.
  4. Apply a styling gel to the front section and comb through front section with a fine-tooth comb to define waves.
  5. Begin to create finger waves by using finger and comb to manipulate hair into a “C” formation.
  6. To protect against thermal damage, spray hair with Moroccanoil Perfect Defense.
  7. Set using the Moroccanoil Infrared Hair Dryer with diffuser attachment.
  8. Pin back of hair up in sections folding hair into waves and curls as you pin.
  9. Lastly, add Moroccanoil Original Treatment to a few waves for a pop of shine and spray with Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray Strong Hold.
